Biography

Christel Sands-Feaste is a highly experienced commercial lawyer with a practice focus on Corporate and Commercial Law, Asset Financing, Mergers and Acquisitions, Financial Services and Investment Funds. She is a Partner at the law firm Higgs & Johnson.

Christel provides advice on a variety of corporate and commercial matters, including corporate structuring, mergers and acquisitions transactions, securing governmental and regulatory approvals, financing transactions, securities offerings in The Bahamas and international capital markets, securitizations and investment fund structuring and creation. In addition to her transactional work, Christel regularly advises clients on day-to-day legal issues including licensing and compliance matters as well as other general corporate and operational activities.

Christel currently serves as Chair of the Higgs & Johnson Financial Services Law & Regulation and Securities & Investment Funds Practice Groups, is named as a “Highly Regarded” Attorney in The Bahamas in both Chambers Global and the International Financial Law Review (IFLR1000) and has been recommended by Legal 500 Caribbean (Commercial Transactions) and Global Law Experts (Mergers & Acquisitions Law). She was also listed in the IFLR1000 list of Women Leaders List in 2021. In 2014, she received the Bahamas Financial Services Board’s (BFSB) award for Financial Services Development & Promotion as a member of the Working Group responsible for the launch of the groundbreaking Bahamas Investment Condominium (ICON) legal structure.

Christel is a Director of the Bahamas Chamber of Commerce and Employers Confederation, and Co-chairperson of its' Ease of Doing Business Division and a member of the Fiscal Responsibility Council. She is a member of the International Association of Gaming Advisors, the Bahamas Bar Association, the Investment Funds Working Group of the Bahamas Financial Services Board and the Nassau Chapter of Links Incorporated. She is a former Director of the Bahamas Financial Services Board and former Vice Chairman of the Bahamas Hospitals and Health Care Facilities Licensing Board.

Christel holds a LLB from Reading University and a Master of Laws in Banking and Finance Law from the London School of Economics and Political Science. She was called to the Bars of the Commonwealth of The Bahamas and England and Wales in 1998
The Council shall have responsibility to assess compliance with the general principles, fiscal responsibility principles and fiscal objectives, and to advise on fiscal and budgetary matters of the Bahamian Government.
